Since 2021 SALT has provided expertise for Southgate, located at Melbourne’s Southbank. Services included developing a waste management strategy to improve resource recovery and minimising waste generated at Southgate’s shops, restaurants, commercial tenancies and residential apartments. SALT identified several improvement opportunities including:

• A waste education campaign for staff and cleaning contractors
• Improved waste signage and security to encourage appropriate use of bins
• Installation of an onsite organics processing system to reduce landfilling of food waste
• Use of bin tugs/trolleys to assist with waste transfers
