Footscray hospital sought to increase their capacity by approximately 100 additional beds to meet growing local demand. Part of this included the need to co-locate services and reconfigure hospital infrastructure to support contemporary service delivery that was appropriate for the provision of acute health care.
As the traffic consultants on this project, SALT was required to undertake a desktop audit of all existing hospital campus traffic and car parking data. SALT identified opportunities and strategies for improving vehicular circulation to and from the campus including for logistics and emergency vehicles. Expert advice was provided on car parking requirements to meet the future demand generated by the agreed Health Services Plan.
SALT also reviewed a series of potential alternative locations to explore relocating the hospital and provided detailed traffic modelling for each site.
