Deakin University Waste Collection Strategy

Client:
Deakin University

Project Status:
Complete

The University was seeking to develop a waste collection strategy to coincide with proposed expansions and aim to increase the efficiency of waste collections and transfers throughout the Burwood campus.

SALT’s waste team was engaged by the university to conduct an infrastructure needs analysis and provide recommendations on campus-scale waste management solutions which addresses the needs and growths of the campus. Our team provided a range of solutions which would benefit various stakeholders (i.e. cleaners, waste vehicle operators, staff members, students and cleaners) by minimising the corresponding occupational health and safety risks imposed by manual waste transfers and improving the amenity of the campus. This was achieved by the redistribution of waste and maximising the use of vacant spaces throughout the campus.

The improvements to the waste collection strategy increased the efficiency of processes and hence improved the experience for all members of the university.
