Ballarat WestEmployment Zone
Client:
Major Projects Victoria and City of Ballarat
Project Status:
SALT’s involvement is complete
Project Value:
$30.2 million (Stage 1)
Jo Garretty was the initial traffic engineering project manager engaged by Major Projects in 2013 during Stage 1 to design roads, intersections and a shared bicycle and pedestrian network. This involved reviewing the existing transport network and analysing swept paths for High Performance Freight Vehicles (HPFVs) including B-triples. On the back of Jo’s involvement and the initial phases, SALT was engaged with tasks including design of roads and lots (Stage 1) as well as the Freight Hub (Stage 2).
The BWEZ Freight Hub will help connect Ballarat to surrounding regions and capital cities such as Melbourne and Adelaide. It will integrate 3 modes of transport: road, rail and air. At 438 developable hectares of land, the hub is an essential building block of regional Victoria.
The Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ) is expected to create 9,000 jobs and generate $5 billion per annum.
