SALTs waste leader led the review of waste transfer stations and resource recovery infrastructure across regional Victoria to inform the development of Sustainability Victoria’s State Wide Resource Recovery Infrastructure Plan (SWRRIP). The project provided the state government with a clear understanding of the current status of Victoria’s resource recovery infrastructure as well as recommendations for infrastructure investment as well as recommendations for infrastructure investment based on capacity shortfall, future population growth and best practice standards.
Key activities included:
- Extensive stakeholder consultation process with councils, waste management groups, state government and other key stakeholders to inform the report;
- Audit of waste infrastructure at more than 100 sites to determine infrastructure needs and inventory;
- Development of an infrastructure assessment tool for categorising and ranking sites;
- Identification and costing of infrastructure options with recommendations;
- Preparation of a report and presentation to the client.
